Recently, news broke that a certain university has stopped using and selling meal tickets. The school now provides cafeteria meal cards to teachers and students for students to swipe their cards for meals. Those without a meal card cannot dine, effectively eliminating the phenomenon of "freeloading meals."

Although currently only the main cafeteria is closed to the public, this move has been welcomed by faculty, students, and even cafeteria staff at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The reporter interviewed some teachers and students dining in the main cafeteria. One student, Wang, told the reporter, "Eating here today has clearly improved a lot. First, there is no longer a long line for meals, which saves a lot of time." Secondly, the overall cafeteria environment has improved a lot, with fewer miscellaneous social staff. "One teacher, Mr. Liu, commented, "In the past, there were many people coming and going in the cafeteria, and things like dropping things were common. Now, at least the safety level in the big cafeteria has greatly decreased, and it feels much better." ”

Meanwhile, the reporter interviewed several cafeteria staff. A staff member clearing trays said, "Today is a day outside the closed window, so the workload hasn't decreased significantly, but as this transition period ends, the workload may decrease." A cafeteria meal server also told reporters: "Starting today, we are closed to the public, so the amount of food we prepare has noticeably decreased. After all, in the past, when dealing with outsiders, we made less food because we worried that students who arrived later wouldn't have food." Now only open to teachers and students, we can estimate the quantity, so the natural volume is easier to control. Previously, when we made too much and couldn't sell, it was wasted, which helped avoid it.

During interviews, it was learned that many faculty and students at Shanghai Jiao Tong University had previously reported to the university that they hoped the school would set up a dedicated cafeteria for use only by students and faculty. After deliberation, the school decided to open the Xuhui campus cafeteria, which has the largest capacity and better service facilities, to only faculty, students, and staff holding campus cards, and will no longer sell meal vouchers on-site. In response, a school official stated that the restriction on non-visitors dining in the Xuhui campus cafeteria is not a temporary measure and will be implemented long-term.

However, considering the dining needs of white-collar workers in the surrounding area, Shanghai Jiao Tong University has retained the third cafeteria and some floors of some cafeterias to continue providing catering services for outsiders
