Circuit Board Protection Tape

Circuit board protection tape uses a polyimide film carrier with an anti-static functional layer and pressure-sensitive adhesive. A typical specification is approximately 0.06 mm thick and 33 m long, with 500 mm master rolls available for slitting. It is suitable for PCB soldering, wave-soldering and tin-spray masking, SMT heat protection, electrical insulation, lithium-battery electrode fixing and thermal protection of motor wiring.

Product overview

Circuit board protection tape is made from polyimide film combined with an anti-static functional layer and a heat-resistant pressure-sensitive adhesive, making it suitable for static-sensitive and high-temperature processing environments. Polyimide film resists softening, shrinkage and edge curling when temperatures change, while providing good electrical insulation, voltage resistance, acid and alkali resistance, abrasion resistance and low electrolytic characteristics. During PCB soldering, wave soldering, tin spraying, SMT processing and electronic assembly, the tape can mask and protect circuit boards, chips and nearby components. It maintains stable adhesion during processing, then peels away readily with little adhesive residue, reducing subsequent cleaning and rework. The typical product is approximately 0.06 mm thick and 33 m long; 500 mm master rolls can be slit to the width required by the process.

Product features

  • A polyimide film carrier and anti-static functional layer make the tape suitable for surface mounting with low-static requirements, anti-static attachment around machinery and electronic-manufacturing operations.
  • A typical thickness of approximately 0.06 mm provides flexibility, conformability and dimensional stability for masking circuit-board edges, solder pads and selected local areas.
  • The typical service-temperature range is -73°C to 260°C. The product information also shows a heat-resistance test range of 260°C to 300°C; the required grade should be confirmed according to the actual process and sample testing.
  • The product information indicates 6 kV voltage resistance and an anti-static index of 10^7, supporting electronic processes that require insulation, voltage resistance and static control.
  • Stable tack provides reliable contact after application, and the bonding effect becomes more stable after an appropriate dwell time.
  • The tape is easy to remove and is unlikely to leave adhesive residue, reducing cleaning work on circuit boards, electronic parts and protected surfaces.
  • Polyimide offers good insulation, acid and alkali resistance, abrasion resistance and low electrolytic characteristics, and it is less likely to soften or deform as temperature changes.
  • The standard length is 33 m. A 500 mm master-roll width can be slit to different widths, with custom roll specifications and volume supply available.

Applications

  • Mask solder pads, chips and selected areas during PCB soldering, wave soldering and tin spraying to reduce contamination, splatter and unwanted heat exposure.
  • Protect nearby components and circuit areas during SMT high-temperature processing and hot-air soldering so that other positions are not unnecessarily affected.
  • Provide anti-static attachment for surfaces of static-sensitive industrial products and around mechanical equipment.
  • Provide insulation, voltage resistance and temporary fixing for electronic circuit boards, electrical parts and precision electronic assemblies.
  • Insulate and secure positive and negative terminals of lithium batteries, battery packs and transformer sections.
  • Provide thermal isolation for wiring and circuit-board protection in motors and other equipment that generate heat during operation.
  • Serve as temporary masking and local protection in high-temperature operations, followed by clean removal after processing.
  • Suitable for electronics manufacturing, electrical assembly, battery processing, motor manufacturing, maintenance and other operations requiring heat-resistant electrical insulation.

Procurement notes

For quotation, please provide the exact application, circuit-board or component material, required width, thickness, length, quantity, roll format, maximum working temperature, heating duration, voltage-resistance requirement and anti-static requirement. The typical reference specification is approximately 0.06 mm thick and 33 m long, supplied from a 500 mm master roll that can be slit to width. For wave soldering, tin spraying, SMT, lithium batteries, motors or other high-temperature insulation processes, please also state the equipment, temperature profile, application time and removal conditions so that the tape grade, adhesion and delivery specification can be confirmed. Test values shown in the product information must be confirmed against the actual batch and operating conditions; sample testing is recommended before volume purchasing.
